Project Highlight

Ashland Commons (Ashland Zocala Park)

Hayward, CA

Park Planet stepped in on the Ashland Commons project, now known as Ashland Zocala Park, after it had already been designed and gone out to bid, but other manufacturers were unable or unwilling to take it on. In addition to the project’s unique design challenges, Park Planet had to work within a very tight budget. Working closely with the ICON design team, Park Planet developed a cost-effective solution that stayed true to the original design while making it possible to manufacture and install.

Throughout the project, Park Planet collaborated with the City of Hayward, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, and the general contractors to finalize colors, secure design approvals, and coordinate manufacturing and shipping.

One of the most unique aspects of the project was the roofing, which featured custom, hand-bent aluminum panels. From design coordination through final installation and on-site walkthroughs, Park Planet provided hands-on support every step of the way, helping bring a challenging project to life while staying true to the original design vision.

Rotary Park Shade Structure

Elk Grove, California

The Rotary Park shade structure began with a vision from the Park Director, who had several inspiration images but nothing that quite captured what she wanted. Park Planet worked directly with her team to hand-sketch a custom structure, incorporating both structural and aesthetic elements while focusing on how the space could best serve the community. Features such as electrical outlets, lighting, and hooks for holiday decorations were incorporated to maximize its versatility for community events and activities.

Through ongoing collaboration, Park Planet and Cosumnes CSD navigated budget constraints, community feedback, and design changes to develop a final design that stayed true to the original vision while remaining practical to manufacture and construct. The hands-on partnership between the two teams was key to bringing this custom structure to life.
